Post gastric bypass surgery

Complications that occur post gastric bypass surgery are many. The patient has to watchout for some of the complications and if necessary other operations post gastric bypass surgery may be required.


Hernia is one of the complication that can occur post gastric bypass surgery. This is found in 10 to 20 % of the patients who have undergone a gastric bypass surgery.

Proper follow up post gastric bypass surgery is essential to seek a remedy for the complications at the right time. Another post gastric bypass surgery complication is the development of the gallstones by the patients. Around 30 percent of the patients have developed these complications.

Nutritional deficiency post gastric bypass surgery is common. Bypassing the initial portion of the intestine where more vitamins and minerals are absorbed leads to this condition.

Proper nutritional supplements have to be taken post gastric bypass surgery. Most of the patients are very careless in this issue and hence they develop nutritional deficiency. Patients develop iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies mostly.

Supplements of vitamins, iron, and calcium should be taken most of their lifetime post gastric bypass surgery. The patients do not stick to this regularly and hence they develop deficiencies.

Bowel problems are common and they may be temporary post gastric bypass surgery. Since the amount of food taken is reduced, several small meals are taken frequently after the surgery.

Post gastric bypass surgery some of the patients are allowed to take pain killers to reduce the pain due to the surgery. Once the weight is reduced after some period you may find excess skin in the abdominal area. This excess skin is removed by plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery.
