The re-constructive knee surgery is a major surgery and the patient may have to in hospital for five or six days and that need minimum of three months period to heal. The severe osteoarthritis of the knees is the general reason, at United States of America, for the total knee replacement surgeries.

Another reason is the trauma / the critical diseases in the knee joint. The surgeon will study the health conditions of the patient and treat him to get recovered from all other affected diseases before performing the knee surgery.

The knee surgery is more complicated and involves many activities like removal and replacements of the affected bones and tissues, where the surgeon will do the implantation of the prosthesis made of metal alloy or high quality plastic.

The orthopedic surgeon need minimum of two hours for the reconstructive total knee replacement surgery and it will be carried out under the general anesthesia like epidural or spinal anesthesia or a regional nerve block.

The patients, who had the total replacement knee surgery, have to reappear for the second surgery just after ten years. Because the replaced prosthesis is having the durability of ten years, minimum and it may have to change after that period.

The second replacement surgery is more complicated than the first surgery, which also may not be hundred percentages successful. All the surgeries having its own risk factor are to be considered before undergoing the surgery. Here in the knee surgery, there are risks of blood clotting, infections and implant failure.

The blood clotting in the main veins of the leg and pelvis is common after the surgery. The major risk of this blood clotting is that the clotted blood may enter in to the lungs, the pulmonary embolism, and can cause for the breathing problems and chest pain.

More growth of this may lead to the death of the person. The infections, immediately after the surgery or after few years, is the another risk factor of the knee surgery, which may lead for the second surgery for the removal of the implants.
